The study day Michelino da Besozzo et le Gothique international entre Lombardie et Europe au début du Quattrocento will be held on December 18th, 2023 in Rome at Sapienza University, Facoltà di Lettere, Dipartimento di Lettere e Culture Moderne. The study day will provide new insights on the work of the Lombard artist and illuminator, a leading figure of the International Gothic period in Italy. Technical analyses carried out on his panel paintings will also be presented for the first time. The day will be an opportunity to discuss the painting and illumination of the early 15th century in the Low Countries as an example of international relationships in 1400s Europe. The event will conclude with a contribution on the scholar Paul Durrieu and the rediscovery of the French Primitives.

International experts from KIK-IRPA, Royal Institute for Cultural Heritage, Brussels, the Catholic University of Milan and the University of Lausanne will participate in the event. The study day is open to students, PhDs, and postdoctoral researchers.
