This volume publishes the Proceedings of an International Symposium held at the University of Brussels (ULB) in April 2006. It places special emphasis on the shapes of Greek vases and how they might shed light on different aspects of pottery production, such as the organization of workshops, the distribution and reception of pottery, and uses of ancient ceramics. Articles are grouped according to six topics: “Production: workshops and shapes,” “Containers, capacities and uses,” “Shapes and uses,” “Images and shapes: iconography and uses,” and “Greek vases and their consumers.” In total, these topics open the path to stimulating discussions on a class of material that played an important part in the cultural exchanges and daily life of the ancient Greek world.
